about

I guess I like to "release" things before they're properly done. There is a reason for this, but not something easily defended. It's vulnerable, fragile. I guess that's the point. This song is a good example of that. I think the original track of guitar and vocal wasn't quite in tune, and to be honest, I suck at the cello. But you probably didn't hear that, cuz I'm pretty good at mixing. You might think it's a song about a girl. You might think I'm ripping off Conor Oberst, Bob Dylan and a host of others, but I think they ripped things off well before I came along. It's a weird tune in my pantheon of tunes for sure. I'm not really sure where it came from. But I'll just let out the dirty secret: it's about the planet, Mother Earth.

lyrics

it wasn't just in evidence
but in everything
she was a believer
it wasn't her intention, no
she never made mention
of what she called her receiver
she was tuned in
when she seemed tuned out
to every deceiver, every doubt
it was only in moments
unspoken she would say
pleading

there's something in all of us
connected to one another
woven within this womb
we will be awakening
soon

she would not speak or give an answer
to questions I never asked her
she just smiled at the quiz in my eyes
laughing in the face of my lies
and said I was meant to leave her
not to deceive her
and she told me words she'd heard
that I'd never said before

there's something in all of us
connected to one another
woven within this womb
we will be awakening
soon

lay down beside me
let go of your mind
can you feel me moving?
are you losing time?

there's something in all of us
connected to one another
woven within this womb
we will be awakening
soon
